Who I am
I am a molecular biologist and academic editor with long-standing experience in writing and publishing scientific manuscripts. For more than three decades, I have been working as a professor and principal investigator in various universities and research centers in Europe and Asia. Presently, I work and live in Udine, Italy.
Over the course of my career, I developed a passion for writing that was, at first, driven by necessity but later transformed into a wholehearted dedication and, more often not, I felt more like a writer with an expensive hobby than as a scientist with the duty of publishing. I published more than one hundred peer-reviewed manuscripts in leading journals in the field of molecular plant biology, which received close to ten thousand citations (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=7f-GqoEAAAAJ&hl=en). Besides papers reporting original research, I accepted invitations to publish manuscripts in various formats, including reviews, perspectives, viewpoints, dispatches, comments, press releases, and editorials. During my time as an active researcher, I acquired ample experience in writing and evaluating research proposals for funding agencies in America and various countries across Europe and Asia.
Dedicated to writing beyond my academic duties, I have been working as an editor and reviewer for numerous journals in the field of molecular biology, including Cell, Science, and Nature. I am regularly delivering workshops on academic writing and comment on recent scientific breakthroughs in various media. Having lived in Taiwan for about two decades, I am particularly familiar with the difficulties that arise when texts drafted in Mandarin have to be transformed into stylish academic English.
